Magnitude 4.5 near West Yellowstone, MT

University of Utah Seismograph Stations Released: June 15, 2017 07:55 PM MDT

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a light earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred at 06:48 PM on June 15, 2017 (MDT). The epicenter of the shock was located in Yellowstone National Park, eight miles north-northeast of the town of West Yellowstone, Montana. The earthquake was reported felt in the towns of West Yellowstone and Gardiner, Montana, in Yellowstone National Park, and elsewhere in the surrounding region. Today’s earthquake is part of an energetic sequence of earthquakes in the same area that began on June 12. This sequence has included approximately thirty earthquakes of magnitude 2 and larger and four earthquakes of magnitude 3 and larger, including today’s magnitude 4.5 event. Today’s earthquake is the largest earthquake to occur in Yellowstone National Park since March 30, 2014, when a magnitude 4.8 event occurred 18 miles to the east, near Norris Geyser Basin.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor
earthquake of magnitude 3.2 occurred at 08:45 AM on November 25, 2016
(MST). The epicenter of the shock was located 6 miles below the
Traverse Mountains at the southern end of the Salt Lake Valley, 4.1 mi
SW of Bluffdale, UT. This earthquake was widely felt in the southern
Salt Lake Valley and northern Utah Valley. The largest earthquake
previously recorded in this area was a magnitude 4.1 event on March 16,
1992.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor
earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred at 04:14 PM on July 02, 2016
(MDT).  The epicenter of the shock was located in southwest Wyoming,
5 miles NNE of the town of Granger, WY and 26.3 miles W of Green River,
WY.  Twenty-two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred
within 25 km of the epicenter of this event since 1962.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a small earthquake of magnitude 2.9 occurred at 04:23 PM on January 29, 2016 (MST). The hypocenter of the shock was located 8 miles below Heber City, UT, and 31 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, UT. The earthquake was reported felt in Heber City and the nearby town of Midway, UT. Since 1962, a total of 4 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred within 16 miles of the epicenter of today’s earthquake. The largest of these events was a magnitude 4.3 on October 01, 1972, located three miles east of Heber City.

Magnitude 4.3 near Enterprise, Utah

Released: January 15, 2016 4:15 PM MST

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a light earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred at 3:37 PM today, January 15, 2016 (MST).  The epicenter of the shock was located near Enterprise reservoir, 12 mi WSW of Enterprise, UT and 34 mi NNW of St. George, UT.  The earthquake was reported felt in St. George, UT and surrounding areas. A magnitude 3.3 earthquake occurred in the same area on January 9th.  A total of 16 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred within 16 mi of the epicenter of today’s this event since 1962.The largest of these events was a magnitude 5.60 on August 16, 1966,
22 mi ESE of Caliente, NV.

Mag 4.2 near Mount Pleasant, UT

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a light earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred at 6:56 PM on June 28, 2014 (MDT). The epicenter of the shock was located on the northwest edge of the Wasatch Plateau, 7 mi south of Mount Pleasant, UT, and 10 miles northeast of Ephraim, UT. The earthquake was reported felt in both of these towns and in other places in the Sanpete Valley. Six small aftershocks were recorded during the first hour following this earthquakes, with largest being a magnitude 2.7 event at 7:01 PM MDT.
