M 3.7 Near Bedrock, CO

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred at 03:53 PM on December 08, 2020 (MST).  The epicenter of the shock was located in western Colorado, 3 miles south-southwest of the town of Bedrock, Colorado, and 18 mi east of the town of La Sal, Utah.  This earthquake occurred within an area of frequent small, shallow earthquake activity triggered by underground saltwater injection. A total of 10 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred within 15 miles of the epicenter of this event since 1997, including two earlier this year:  a magnitude 3.4 on September 16 and a magnitude 3.8 on November 8.  The largest earthquake since 1962 in the area of today’s earthquake was a magnitude 4.5 on March 4, 2019.
