PRESS RELEASE University of Utah Seismograph Stations Released: September 19, 2022 04:30 PM MDT The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a light earthquake of magnitude 4.4(USGS) occurred at 3:18 PM on September 19, 2022 (MDT). The epicenter of the shock was located in northern Arizona about 30 mi SSE of Saint George, UT with more than 100 felt reports. The largest earthquake in the area was a magnitude 5.9 on September 2, 1992, 1.8 mi SSE of Washington, UT. The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred at 06:55 AM on September 18, 2022 (MDT). The epicenter of the shock was located about 6.5 mi NW of Norris Geyser Basin, WY. A total of 168 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred within 16 mi of the epicenter of this event since 1962. The largest of these events was a magnitude 4.8 on March 30, 2014, 2.8 mi N of Norris Junction, WY.
The earthquake was reported felt within Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding communities.
