M 3.6 near Zion National Park

University of Utah Seismograph Stations

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred at 03:36 PM on December 21, 2021 (MST).  The epicenter of the shock was located about 5 mi east of Zion NP and 22 mi east of Hurricane, UT. The earthquake was felt in Hurricane and the surrounding area.  A total of 8 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred within 16 mi of the epicenter of this event since 1962.  The largest of these events was a magnitude 3.4 on March 11, 1989, 3.9 mi E of Colorado City, AZ.
